The centralised system is completely managed. Mobile Computing look after:
  • Server maintenance
  • Power and network high availability
  • Permissions, users and groups
  • Backups - checked and secured off-site daily
  • Firewall
  • Anti-Virus? protection
  • Anti-Spyware? protection
  • Microsoft licensing fees
  • Remote access

Optionally, the following can be integrated, negating the need to pay for these other services:
  • E-Mail? server
  • Web server
  • Dictation server - upload and download dictation from multiple users or locations

All that is required to access the system is an Internet connection, and a compatible printer if needed.
Your data is physically located in a secure data centre. There is no need to store a copy of your database on your laptop or even at the surgery. Provided some simple security fundamentals are followed*, this is a highly secure way to work.

Many sites are already using some form of remote access to their desktop, like accessing the surgery remotely from home, hospital or an aged care facility. By moving the server to the cloud, you can effectively double the speed of this kind of connection, and make it securely available from any location.

A Genie in a cloud - running the Windows version of Genie in full colour, from a Macbook using a Mobile broadband card. No surgery data is present on the laptop.

  • Security fundamentals - use a strong passphrase (these can be mandated) and don't share it with anyone. Change your passphrase if it is compromised. Do not use software to save your passphrase. Use a different passphrase for your desktop and clinical logins.
